Invitation letter to Libya

Can anyone help, we are finding great difficulty in getting an ivitation letter for Libya. We are hoping that 4 of us in 2 vehicles will have a three week trip in Libya over Christmas and New Year. Does anyone have a reliable source??

(if you still have but want to sell the silver bus, a guy in Agadez will have it)

Hi Chris, hope you are well. Did e-mail you on your usual address a few weeks back but no reply - has it changed?
Also - which silver bus are we talking about? we still have the beige Landcruiser plus a left hand drive silver Pickup - did for a while have an Iveco 4 x 4 van but is in Iceland now.
Re Libya, not sure if Martyn has already tried the contact on your page and not got very far so will try again and let you know the outcome - or for a fee could you arrange it for us?
Sue

Hi Guys
I'm in Libya at the mo, I also had the same problem of no reply from the tour operators .... so on the way down through Europe I stopped off at the Libyan Embassy in Bern Switzerland. Be it Luck or a sad face I managed to get a 21 day Transit visa, no invitation required, I even stipulated the dates from when to when. The only stipulation was that I enter at Ras Adjir and exit at El Katrun (my request). So far in Libya it's been a breeze, no hassles on my own getting in or through all the paperwork.(joys of motorcycles hey)
I also met two couples in landrovers who arranged tour guides and invitations, not sure who they went through but I'm sure they wont mind if you mail them. www.upthekyhber.co.uk and www.hereandthereinafrica.co.uk
I'm here for another day, there is a tour operator in the hotel, I'll pass on your email - lets see what happens.
Three options, hope this helps
Andy

Jamal is Mr Arkno and Caravanserai (a UK tour operator) works closely with Arkno - so sounds like contacting Arkno via Cara could be the way to get a reply. Telecoms in Libya were pretty terrible years ago and many still resort to European contact points - though you would havew thought they got better by now.

Andy White - glad to hear it's a Libyan breeze for you and not the usual ghibli.

It has taken me quite a long time (almost two months) to finally get the covetted invitation fax from Libya. After many calls, I managed to get it through Arkno.
As it happens Jamal is actually in th UK at the moment. He can be reached on the following number: +44 161 682 5063.

Good luck!

hello,

just wondering, does the invitation letter mean that one can travel without a guide?

we are also travelling to libya over christmas, but are still looking for a second vehicle or group we may be able to join.

regards
ulf
