UK to Kenya

Hello

I have read through lots of posts and searched many of my questions but havent found greatly detailed answers for all

I am planning to drive an ambulance (sorry not a bike) from the UK to possibly Kenya or Tanzania (I would like to get to Malawi
or Zambia but only have 5 weeks next summer - im a teacher). The ambulance will then be given to a hospital.

I was planning to get the ferry to Tunisia then head into Algeria.

Next up is Libya (is this Safe? has anyone done it recently?)

Head down through to Sudan (again is this safe? has anyone done Sudan recently)
Then I suppose Southern Sudan into Kenya.

I have also have read I may need Escorts in some countries - where do I organise these? How much do they cost?

Any advice anyone has please contact me.

I have posted this in the Sub-Saharan and Saharan forum as I hope to go through both.

many thanks for your time

Tom

Tom, I'm sure it's an honest mistake but 'double posting' to get attention is bad form.
Better to take a bit more time and tailor your queries to specific forums. That's why there are several on HU. It focuses info where those that follow can more easily find it.

Many of your Sahara questions will be answered here:
Sahara Overland ~ Trans Sahara Routes
Sahara Overland ~ Country Information
and I'm sure other will chip about advice on things like Libya and undertaking such a trip in summer in what may well be an old vehicle.

maybe shipping in a container..?

Tom, nice gesture bringing an ambulance there. The route you are proposing can hardly be an option, for obvious reasons you'll surely understand as you browse this forum. You may rather consider shipping from UK (Southampton for example) to Mombassa if you want to have it all in one piece at destination. In any case I suggest you try to put yourself in a "supplier" position to a local importer rather than try to permanently import yourself a vehicle into a country that is not yours (could it be?). It will probably eat up the whole 5 weeks summer leave to organize this in Kenya before you actually get to ship the vehicle. Good luck.
