Tyres in Cairo?!?

As our tyres on our bikes are now stiull pretty fat (about 1000km) we will be sure to make it to the Middle East but I want to fit fresh tyres somewhere there. I know where to find tyres in Antalya but if we see that our tyres still have life in them then I would rather push through to Cairo and change them there.

So does anyone know what tyres are definitely available in Cairo make and model. I have been warned that all tyres there are rubbish and I should rather post sets of tyres from the UK before we leave...but what if we need to change the tyres before we reach Cairo...we could always sell them off...Anyone know someone in Cairo I can post to? Any contacts for tyres there?

Taking the tyres with us is not an option...our little bikes will suffer.

Any thoughts and opinions will be greatfully considered.

sizes: 130/80-18 and 90/90-21 (4.60-18 and 3.00-21)

Suggest you send a PM to the Egypt HUBB community, as they can probably help you out. They are an excellent bunch of guys.

The Pharoahs rally is in October, so you might be able to get someone from the HUBB community in Egypt to purchase some additional tyres from the rally (Mich Deserts) and store them until you arrive.

Although the Mich Desert rear is usually a 140-80-18, rather than a 130.

cheers

Cairo Tyres

There are a few good places in Heliopolis, esp for Pirellis - go into the streets behind the Baron Hotel on the main drag. Also try Egypt Offroad - again, Heliopolis.

The idea that there are only bad tyres there is false - Pirelli Scorpions are common, and Ive had good sets of both Mich XZL and Bridgestone VSJs out there.

Thanks for that Runner. As there are so many Land Cruisers around in Egypt I am not surprroised that there are decent 4x4 tyres available. Is this also the case for decent motorbike tyres eg MT21's, TKC80's, even Trailwings might do?

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
