turbo diesel?
 

hi again
i got an option to buy a turbo diesel car for my trip through the sahara (Tunis-Tam-Agadez in July). can anyone inform me what about this kind of engine? i heard you can switch the turbo off. is that right?

what type of vehicle are you talking about abd what engine is it fitted with?

Usually you can't switch the Turbo on or off!!

thanks for quick answer! the car is a Toyota Camry station wagon, 2.3TD from 1990. very nice car and big. also very cheap! but i'm afraid for eventual mechanical problems.

Ties, why would anyone want to switch the turbo off? Before you drive to theSahara, make an effort to learn at least the absolute basics of vehicle mechanics and maintenance.

No you cant swith the turbo off. You can take the turbo off but unless it breaks then there is no point in doing this, you would have a huge loss of power. There is no real need to worry, the engine is usually very solid.

You may have problems with too much sand in the air. To avoid this you can place gauze over the air filter inlet and smear the inside of the air intake and the area around the filter with a thin film of grease or vaseline. Clean the filter on a regular basis and you shouldnt have too many problems.

thanks Kevin, that's the answer i was looking for. i heard somewhere one could take the turbo off but was not sure. and thanks for the other info that i already knew anyway.
