tunisia to cameroon...without a vehicle?!!!
 

hello all!
we are planning to travel from tunisia, through algeria, niger and nigeria to cameroon throughout the month of september this year...we don't have a bike, just a couple of fools with a huge spirit of adventure and lots of travel experience...
would really appreciate any helpful tips, suggestions or advice from anyone out there who's been there, done it or got the tshirt
particularly interested in travel arrangements (ie. transport, accomoddation etc) border crossings, latest news on travel advice re.safety/terrorism threats beyond those listed on FCO and other websites, and basicaly anything else you might be happy to share :helpsmilie:

For Algeria at least, you simply have to pay an agency to drive you from the Tuni border to IGZ. Min 4 days I'd say at about £100 a day for the car (the rest will be quite cheap if you camp by the road).
Of course you won't see much that way unless you pay for extra days.

It's just a long taxi ride, not very satisfying IMO but that's all you can do in Alg unless someone in a car who also has the escort offers a cost share lift.

Been a while since I was down that way, but in 2001 a friend of mine (female, alone, with a daysack as luggage) did almost the same in reverse. Not via Alg but via Mauri and Maroc. Sorry I can't offer more specific help other than to say it is (or was) possible.

Easy to do by public transport once you are through Algeria but the Atlantic Route is easier, cheaper and more interesting if you have the time.
