Tunisia- Ksar Ghilane
 

Hi All,
My family (2 kids, me and partner Rob) are wanting to travel to ksar ghilane with a guide from either Tozeur or Douz. I'm aware of the recent kidnapping of the poor Austrian tourists. I am keeping up to date with recommendations from the Foreign Office regarding safety etc. I'm trying to get a picture of the wisdom of doing this trip from people more acquainted with the area and situation. Does anyone have any suggestions of how to get this information?

Good question. I suspect the unfortunate Austrians were travelling alone and much further south in the trackless Grand Erg near the Algerian border and not along this commonly-done 100-km tourist route (a version is in my book: T2).
Ask again locally of course for reassurance (or possibly discouragement), but I very much doubt if the Grand Erg of S Tunisia is roaming with AQIM kidnappers; these guys nipped over from Algeria to grab them.
