Hi!

There are no real time schedules for the Train to Choms, and reservations in advance are not accaptet once when you are there.

There running several Trains each Day, but only every second Day do they have Car transportations, and the Price ranges from 12000 up to 17000 OOGS (its depending how do you know the system of bargaining).

The Pist is for an 2 Wheel Drive on some parts verry difficould, and Desert equipment is verry nesasary.

With an 4 Wheel Drive you can do it in one long Day from the Border to Choms, and an half Day from Choms to Atar.

for further question or any korrektion please mailto:info@desertrunner.at

At the moment there are trains on Saturdays and Mondays which take cars but there is no guarantee that the platforms will be available. Prices depend on length of the vehicle and for most cars and 4x4 are between 12000 and 15000 Ougiya. The charge to tie the car down is 1000 Ougiya. Last week in Mauritania the rate was about 265-280 for one Euro. Making a reservation in advance doesnt hurt but gives no guarantee that you will get a place.

The piste to Atar is easy in a 2WD and a lot better for the car than going via the beach. For ythe first 45km or so there are stretches of soft sand but they are passable at speed. Be sure when leaving Choum you take the car piste and not the truck piste to Atar. After this the ground becomes firmer. On top of the plateau there is a 2km passage of soft sand. Let the air down as far as you think possible and take a good run up. You should get through it.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
