Does anybody know if you can cross the Algerian Sahara via Tamanrasset by your own or do you need any guides or groups for that?

Yes, guide is obligatoire and there are few "guides" out there.

actually it is not advisable to enter Niger coming from the North because of the current military conflict between armed Tuareg rebels and the Niger army.
- Military escort required fo Arlit-Agadez in both directions
- Agadez is closed for western tourists
- The state of emergency had been declared for the North of Niger
