Trip to Morocco in Oct 08

Well the Ferry is booked, the bike is kitted out! & the time off is confirmed so now it is just a case of planning where to visit! We have a total of 14 days in Morocco(18 days off in total to cover ferry to Bilbao & riding thro' Spain)

We would like to see Marrakesh, & Fez but would also like to see the mountains & is it the "Tin Tan Pass" & a bit of the desert. Is this realistic or will it be too much riding?. We want to have a chilly trip not blatting from one point to another& not seeing anything. Any advice would be welcome.

Cheers
Martyn

Hi Martyn

You should be able to see quite a lot of Morocco in your 14 days, it's an easy country to get around and the roads are mainly traffic free. Marrakech and Fes are worth visiting but the best biking in my opinion can be found south and southwest of the Atlas Mountains. Heading south from Marrakech take either the Tizi-n-Test or the Tizi-n-Tichka passes, your timeframe should enable you to spend 7 days in the south, try to avoid Agadir and the Rif area in the north and you'll have a great time

enjoy

Hi Kev

Thanks for the info, I got the Mitchelin Map yesterday & the distances don't seem that bad & we can't go to Morocco & not see the desert!

Have a look at the itinerary suggested in post #7 of http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...eginners-28996

I'm going from belfast to morocco around the same time on a deauville and I'm intending to follow Tim's suggested route on the morocco for beginners thread. I think you're on a triumph road bike Martyn? Tim's route sounds ideal for road bikes.
I had hoped to stop at the HU meeting in Spain on the way but its now been confirmed for the 14th of september which is too early for me so I'm intending to wait to the end of ramadan. I might well see you somewhere if you're there in early October. Have a good trip.

Hi Drew

I will not be taking the Triumph as I would cry if I dropped it, too many shiny bits.. lol

I got hold of a BMW F650 for £600 back end of last year & have kitted it out just for this trip.
The preious owner had spent a fortune getting it thro' it's MOT & then part ex it for a Tiger.

There will be 2 of us both celebrating becoming "Old Gits" at 50..lol. My Brother in law will be on a Super Tenere in Camel racing colours (hope no camels try and race him!), & My F650 is red.

We are booked on the Portsmouth to Bilbao ferry on 1st October, so we should be in Tangers around the 5th, hopefully we will be able to catch up on the road for beer or a brew! as Tim's route looks good

Cheers
Martyn

If you want to see the desert, go to Erg Chebbi. You can go south from Marrakech to Ouarzazate, then head east to Erg Chebbi. Along the way there are the Todra and Dades Gorges.

Ziz Valley

I'll be going back to Morocco in mid October to catch up on the bits i missed at the end of last year, can't wait. Sound like i may be a bit late to cross paths with you tho.
What ever you do, don't miss the Ziz Valley (Azrou - Midelt - Er Rachidia) its absolutely stunning. Also leads on well to going right up the Todra Gourge cutting accross and coming back down the Dades Gourge, i didn't have time last time, but is def on my list for October

Good luck and enjoy

Sam
