Travelling with children

When our oldest daughter was one day old, she got many blessings from mayan people, in the back of our old canvas top vehicle, in the way home (in that time). It was the first European new born our Mayan friends did ever seen. Among other places, because of my work or my passions, she -they- remembers playing violin in top of a dune in the Sahara or being invited to a wedding in the Atlas. I was not easy, not at all, but it was beautiful. And I am sure all those experiences some how have been making an good influence in them

Soon we are driving to Timbuktu with our twinboys (20 months old). Our goal is to learn to live like nomads on the way.

Hello All,
just a short update to the topic:
after 10 days of travelling, we have arrived to our destination in Senegal. The baby (16 months) has _really_ enjoyed the whole travel. Maybe, he won't remember the whole thing in a few years, but right now, he feels great. The two favourites: climbing up the dunes in Mauritania, and of course, the ocean and the lagune here. No health or other problems until now, everything is fine with him. Drop me an email if you need info on the region.

I have just come back from 2 months in Southern Africa, with my 3 and 6 year old. They loved it, with up to 5 hours travelling on (too many) days.

So, I would like to publicly admit that my earlier posts were incorrect - you can travel with small children and they can love it!

I met a chap and his family who are now some of my closest friends in Meknes back in 2000. He was traveling with his 11 year old daughter and 8 year old son London-Bombay-Cebu.

The kids were great, though tired some days. The most interesting thing for me is seeing, 9 years later, how great they turned out. They are the most engaging, curious and well-rounded kids (now 20 and 17) that I've ever met. It's clearly good for their soul. But we already knew that, right?!
