There are reports that the train doesn't transport tourist cars anymore now due to an accident...

The Ore Train website is:
http://www.snim.com/carnet/trainEn.html
but no car transport news when I just looked.

Perhaps one car too many fell off (or worse) and they're thinking: why bother - especially with the new road

Good idea, and let us know the outcome!

I tried to get it in February this year with two motobikes. No luck. People kept saying it was possible and "come back tomorow" but in the end it never happened. Mainly the problem is that the train regularly de-rails and I think they have just given up transporting vehicles becuase of the hassle.

So I spent four days trying to get the flippin train, then gave up and rode across the piste to Atar which actually was a really good trip !

Harder in places than I imagined it would be but there are nice side trips along the way (the Monoliths for example) and a good "diagonal" in open desert from the piste / rail tracks south - east direct to Atar (very tough in places !).

My advice is if the train doesn't appear to be runing try it twice then give up and head across the piste !

Sounds fun that rail route - easy nav if you want it and, like you say, the option of a fairly safe diagonal if you're up for some adventure... but maybe not in a Merc van!

hi joao
it used to leave Nouadhibou on Saturday and Monday in April 2005. After the 5th train accident this year everything changed for a while or not? Its Africa...
