Le Conseil National du Tibesti ( CNT) a pour projet d’ agrandir l’aéroport de Zouar et Bardaï, et de construire plus de 150 hôtels dont deux 5 étoiles d’ici 10 ans. D’ici a 15 ans nous prévoyons aussi la construction de village-vacances, le but du CNT étant de faire du Tibesti, le pays le plus visité après l’Egypte. Au Tibesti il n’existe pas de mer, mais notre but est de faire plus visiteur qu’à l’île Maurice.

In English: they are going to build 150 hotels in the Tibesti in 10 years, making Tibesti as visited as Egypt.

Do you think that at leat some of this information is true?

I have only heard stories about kidnappings and landmines in the Tibesti.

Who is the Tibesti National Council? Those who kidnap you?

This must rank as one of the most optomistic reports I have seen from the Sahara....


The Tibesti has been pretty much ungovernable/ungoverned for the last few decades. Instead of airport tax on the way to the hotels I think we could expect kidnap tax.

I agree. I hear there was a failed coup in Chad a few weeks ago - as we know trouble has been brewing there lately so it is business as usual.
