The best ferry to Morocco

Hi all. I am planning on leaving for Morocco on the 12th and looking at available crossings.

It seems the main options are Tarifa - Tangier, Algeciras - Tangier or Algeciras - Cueta

Now the two main companies I have come across are

Transmediterania and FRS

Both seem to me to be quite expensive. At around 140Eur return.

Is this about the best price we are likely to get or would it be a better idea just to turn up at the port of either Tarifa / Algeciras and book on the spot.

Any ideas appreciated or experience of what people have done in the past.

Thanks

Best price is price to ferry Algeciras - Tangier (slow ferry, it going 2,5 h). You can buy the ticket on the road near Algeciras.

Ferries

Last January I crossed (with a bike) Algeciras-Tangier and returned Ceuta-Algeciras in February. I bought my tickets at the ferry terminal on both occasions and paid less than 20 euros each time. It was a deal where you paid for the vehicle and the passengers went free (or vice -versa) but seemed to be a long term, possibly low season only, arrangement.
Good luck
John

Took the Algeciras/Ceuta fast ferry a few days ago. I paid 390euro two-way for 1 car and 4 persons.

This was high-season... no discount except the 10% reduction for booking two-way.

You can also book online (and thus check the prices), don't have the URL handy at the moment.

Looks like the prices I have got so far are about as good as it's going to get then. Unless I take the gamble and just turn up and manage to get a good deal.

I paid about 55 EUR last year, half april, bike included. 30 minutes between Algeciras and Ceuta. Just buy a ticket at the port.

There are countless responses to this question in the archives.

My own approach was to show up and ask anyone I saw what to do. I ended up paying 20-30 euros each direction on some sort of special sale deal. As I understand it, this was not intended to be applicable to myself and a bike, but such details don't seem to matter much. In one direction I paid at the ferry window; in the other, I bought from an agent (on which occasion I had to express my surprise and disappointment at the first fare offered before the agent offered the second, drastically lowered fare).

YMMV. Do check the archives for more comprehensive answers to your questions.

enjoy,

Mark
