Tamanrasset Djanet par Monts Gauthier

Hi,

I come back from this travel.
I went to Tam the 13th of March. I left Djanet the 20.
We used the south route, in one car without any difficulty.
We did not ask for any authorization.
In tam, we met some people coming from Djanet and, in Djanet, some people coming from Tam

You did this without a guide?

Quite possible to drive all the way without meeting anyone.
If you had been spotted by the gendarmes, they wouldn't have liked it.
Better go with a guide (a good one!).

I get a feeling Yves Ro is less in need of a guide than most of us.

I was reminded of his early travels and great photos and resources on his fascinating website, including:

Tenere Tree (yes, the actual tree) in 1967 with a no-door Renault 4.

1974. Trans Tenere with Baja Beetle, Simca, a suped-up R4 and state-of-the-art nav: compass + 153!

And the mystery of the old bus at Tam camping solved. You'll never guess.
