Sudan visa available in Aswan?

I read somewhere on here that a visa (tourist or transit?) for Sudan is available in Aswan. Is this true? I cannot find the original post. Is this true for Americans as well?

Thanks.

I think I remember hearing that too, but it's so easy to get in Cairo, that I would recommend that as plan A. If you are in Aswan, I would say call Mr. Idris at 002106845201 and follow his advice. Another good resource in Aswan is the "Jamaica" family. Take the short ferry ride to elephantine (sp?) island and ask around for them. Achmed is no longer there, but the family is very helpful. If you want to sail on a felucha, they are the guys to deal with as well.

Visa

Rumoured to be yes, but last December there was a few European tourists (Austrians?) who had to pop back to Cairo (~800km?) after they overlanded down to Aswan under the same impression and then found out no, they couldn't get their visas there in a reasonable time frame. I would definitely do it in Cairo, although as posted a few times lately, it is no walk in the park to get a Sudanese visa in Cairo for the last 6 months anyways. Wait times have ranged between 1 day to 2 weeks.

Apparently yes in Aswan

An old thread I know but getting back to the original post - I'm in Aswan now and apparently you can get a Sudanese visa here, at the same cost as Cairo. I actually didn't know before I got here so got mine in Cairo but my contact here assures me he's able to sort them out.

His name is Mohammed Abouda and is a really nice and resourceful guy in Aswan. +201 2511 1968

Cheers
