>>> all visas must be sorted at the border

If it's what I think it is, a service, I see that as an advantage, it means it will all be prepared in advance with minimal queuing (as Lib agents offer with all the other Libyan entry paperwork at Ras). It may well be a dry run for the talked-about permanent issue of visas at the border to encourage tourism.

It may just be my desire to have something tangible in my hands to say I'm going that's making me uneasy about last minute changes. I quite like the laid back nature of Africa generally but unfortunately eclipses don't work on Africa Time and these are my first dealings with the Libyan way of things.

I'm in contact with an Italien motorcycle group http://www.2000moto.it/index.aspx?page=viaggid&id=155 and they say exactly the same about the new visa procedure: you collect it at the border

Hi Fragglecat.

For your peace of mind.

WE suggest to cheek if your T.O is one of the 3 local T.O winner of the official tender issued by Libyan Gov. to run the eclipse event or among theirs several subcontractors regulary cooperating in the same task.

Yes . You can have the visa at the border, but , as usual, the procedure must be performed before your arrival. At least you must know the number of yur invitation letter.

There is still time to have a regular invitaion letter, in case of difficulty try with Winsrick Co, that is one of the 3 appointed Co.(works mainly on Jalu area).

'Clear skies or your money back'

Exactly ten years ago today we woke up in the Tenere north of Bilma for the Saharan Eclipse.
The surprising thing was the the things we'd seen in the desert up to then and on the way back were no less amazing than the astronomical spectacle itself.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
