Small trucks on Med ferries

Am I right in understanding that the old 'camping car' dodge for sub 7.5T Unimogs and the like is over on routes to Tuni and Alg (SNCM, etc)? ie: not Morocco.

Now you have to check in as 'freight' and pay up to double.

I got caught like this in 2007 out of Marseille with a small MAN and did not know if I was unlucky but it seems it's going to be the same deal for a Mog to Alg next year. My MAN happened to be full of bikes so I gave in but these vehicles are usually genuine civilian camping cars that just happen to be 3m high trucks.

thanks

Ch
