Sahara overland, Algeria north to south

I would like to take an overland trip across the Sahara - north to south. It's just me at the moment and I don't have a vehicle of my own. My preference is via one of the Algerian routes. Does anyone know if there are organised tours doing this at the moment ? If not is anyone else planning an expedition in the near future and do you need another participant to defray expenses ? ( Can bring my own shovel )

For Sahara overland it will have to be a Europeran (German) company like Rotel but check out Exodus/Encounter/whatever, they were planning to return to Alg and across, last I heard.

I found some kind travellers - thanks Ties and Didier - and made it to Niger from Tunis. I would like to thank everyone who replied to this post and emailed with advice about their own experiences. It was a great help.
