Route R6 in Mauri / info on mali

Hi all

Has anyone done this route recently ?

Do you need a guide or does anyone have GPS references and descriptions for it

and whats the situation on visas for mali - do you need to get them in advance or can it be done at the border ?

What does the local carnet for mali cost ?
How much is insurance for mali ?

Rich,

I'll be doing the R6 route in about 3 weeks time. I'll be back by the first week of December.
E-mail me in early December, and I'll send you details, advices, etc.

Cheers,
José

The updated coordinates for this route are my own.

Re taking a guide it is not neccesary if you have good maps and are confident of your navigational skills.

You are however going into an area which is not regularly travelled. You probably will get the vehicle stuck a few times and there are stretches where you could damage your vehicle. You should therefore be prepared for this.

Actually if Claf or José or anyone want to re-log this route that would be good, as I just remembered it has a few km gaps, etc.

Hi Chris,

I knew that you want it!
I'm planning to log routes between Nouadhibou- Atar - Tidjikja - Tichit - Oualata and a couple more around Moudjeria.

I'll contact you in December

Cheers,
José

Good for you José, just what is needed. I'll save you some blank pages.
Please try and follow the format of the book as closely as possible (I mean the headings, etc)

So CTC - what do you mean by damaging route ?

Get the stuff to me in December Jose and I'll run thru and check it hopefully

I seem to be missing a post on this topic - was it my imagination but i'm sure there was a post from Zoe & Marcus Hemsted about a 101 journey in this thread - I have the email notification but no post ?

Anyone any ideas ? - or am I the only one that can't see it

bom dia José Brito,

i understand you knew that chris wants your information-
but I WANT IT TOO!

will be travelling in this area around february. and i would not like to buy and carry several books, in which only 15 of 600 pages are really useful to me.

so i (and surely some other travelers) would be very happy if you put all your information on the web.
i promise to do the same thing when i'm back from dakar in april 2004.

good luck to everyone

Re "potential for damage" this should not be overstated. I mentioned it only because you are in a remote area - there are a couple of steep ascents and descents which if you cocked them up could lead to a roll. In other areas there a plenty of opportunities to smack your diffs on rocks / boulders (perhaps less so on a 101 though).

Hi Rich

Yes, I am sure I did post something but cant see it!

We were going to do this route but ended up going to Nouakchott to get our visa for Mali.

We were in a 101 Ambi and got back to UK mid Sept.

Had a great trip.
