Roof Rack's

Anyone got experiences with Thule or alike light wight roof-racks?

I've used one before, carriyng a spare wheel, a hi-lift jack and a shovel (!) fitted to a sheet of plexi/playwood, and it's been ok even in tough off-roading, but of coarse I haven't tried it on corrugations or other long-time "shake'n'bake" conditions though...

PS/ My uneducated guess it's shaked' to shreds in 5 min's... ;^) /DS

Hello Johan,

I will be testing a King-Pin roof rack (civil company style, with the role on the back) on my Toyota HJ61 soon. At present I am still considering to modify the present support structure since I am not yet convinced that it will last in Africa (roof tent, 2 spare wheels and maybe some other stuff).

The main investment sofar was EUR 85 (NLG 175 ! Maybe some more welding by an external party which will cost some hundred Euro. All in all much cheaper compared to the Easy-Awn (?) roof rack which is for sale at some EUR 1100! Brownchurch might be cheaper but at least three times the price I expect to pay.

I will keep you updated in the future if more is to be reported.

Jan.

Yeah, I'm fitting a new (cheap) Thule config for Scottland because as I'm buing a 70-series TLC this fall I don't want to invest in something expensive for my 60-series that won't fit the 70...

I talked to one guy here who had a Brownchurch fitted to his 60-series, good rack though - had one on my Series III, but I'd rather have one built as the price of the Brownchurch here is around £500 and for that price I can have a rack custom built after my own spec's...
