Belgium-Ghana

Just back from our overland trip Belgium-Ghana,started on 15 december 2009-16 januari 2010.

we crossed Mauritanie offroad Nouadibou-choum-Atar-Chingetti-Tidjikja,on road Tidjikja, route d'espoir,Ayoun to Nioro, border Mali. Between Nouadibou-Choum we had a armed police escort for our security. In Atar the gendarmerie gave us a permission document to travel alone direction Tidjikja.

The site is in dutch.

Did you need a Carnet de Passage to enter Ghana?
Did you ship back the cars from Ghana?

we didn't need a carnet de passage because we donated the fourwheel drive car to a organistation who helps children in schools near Tamale. the car was already paid in Belgium.
A men of CID organisation helped us at the border with the papers. no stamps in pasport and no import problems at the border. In a hour the job was done.

The "gendarmerie mobile" found us on the pist. They were very polite, friendly and had orders from higherhand to control the border. That first night on the pist in a village we had camp next to "gendarmerie" station. The day after, rules were changed (?!°) and we could travel along, direction Atar.
In Atar we had a permission paper of the big chef of the gendarmerie mobile to travel alone. We made copys and gave them if neccessary to control posts.
We paid nothing! Many campsite's complained of the situation, no tourist,no money. The situation in Mauritanie is also big problem in west afrika. many people who works in the tourist sector complain.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
