stuck in egypt...?

wow, i just thougth i had made it... all the way round africa and now i seem to be stuck in egypt.

according to all information i could gather i won't get a visa to libya within a reasonable period of time and syria apparently no longer issues visas no non-egyptians.

solutions???

-is there a sea connection from egypt to turkey or greece (or similar?)

- what about ferry or boat connections from israel?

- any other suggestions to get back to europe without flying?

From Nuweiba on the sinai you can get a ferry to Aqaba (jordan)this is the most common route.

also in '93 I took a ferry from Alexandrai to Greece, but it may be stopped now.

Libya refused my visa application after nearly 4 months of trying., so I flew to Cairo direct (about 1200TD for me and bike).

Jordanian visas are still not that difficult, so the Nuweiba route is still open for the time being.

BUT

Syria have STOPPED issuing visas to non-residents of Egypt. Apparently even applications last week received visas, but I have been refused twice (even with a letter from the British Embassy).

They said you must now apply in your HOME country.

So, you get to the Jordan / Syria border and you're stuck, assuming you don't want to enter the Israeli warzone.

It may be possible to get a visa at the Syria / Lebanon border, but how to get there without getting shot / blown up / taken hostage?

From Turkey it's easy.

Best option for you is to fly from Cairo to Tunis / Istanbul / Wherever, I reckon.

For me, I will work on the Jordan / Israel / Lebanon / Syria route.

It's not really about Sahara , but thanks to Ursula for this very interrresting infos :
It's the fist ( since a long time ) I've seen infos about ferry transportation from Europe to Middle East .
For Ancona -Beyrut it's seems Ok with OTLS for this year , but for Marlines I've seen only departures in June 2003 .

i am currently checking all possibilities to get a ship from alexandria, we'll see. in any case i'll keep you informed if i find something.

israel might not be the nicest option, but are there ferries, or ships going from haifa, or from other places?

is the border to lebanon open? just asking because of the mentioned connection from beirut...

The Israel-Lebanon border has been a war zone since 1947 - no crossing unless you happen to be a member of one of the warring parties armed forces, however in this case do not expect a warm welcome on the other side...

Only way to access Lebanon by land is from Syria.
