public transportation from Casablanca or Marrakesh to Dakar?
Hello,
I'm heading by train from Paris August 1 and will cross on the ferry to Tangier. My ultimate destination is Bamako, but I'd love to see some of the countries instead of just flying from Paris. (Which is awfully expensive.) Does anyone know the status on buses from Casablanca or Marrakesh that would get me to Dakar? (I'll take the train on to Bamako.) I'm a female traveling solo, btw. Thanks for any advice. |

There are a new coach service from Dakhla to Bir Guendouz not far from the Mauritanian border. It leaves from Dakhla everyday at taxi square in the morning about 8-10 a.m. the cost is 12-15 euros.
Probably there are a taxi services from Bir Guendouz to Nouadibou. No more check points after the Mauritanian border to Nouadhibou - we had a lift easily in Dakhla at camping Moussafair from a European traveller. To go back: we have rumours about a taxi service from Nouadibou to Dakhla at a cost of 46-62 euros. Simona de Roma - April 2002 Full story: http://www.sahara-overland.com/routes/atlantic.html |

Researching this option last year (October 2003) I've found that the bus going from Dakhla south is out of option. I've asked around police check-points on the Dakhla crossroad and Dakhla itself and it seems, that the only sort of public transport are Mauri Merc 207 drivers hanging around the checkpoint (near Moussafir camping). They demand 50 eur from there all the way to NDB (I came down to 35). Of course you can still hunt for a free lift on the camping itself.
From Casa there is direct CTM bus to Dakhla at 10 am, each day. ------------------ Janusz www.yahodeville.com |
