Public Transport from Casablanca to Dakar.
 

We are a team of ten that will be travelling from Morocco to Cameroon with public transport, next year.

I read that the public transport down the western sahara and northern coast of mauritania is scarce. Has that changed since? Is it possible?

No, quite the contrary. From anywhere in Morocco you can get a bus/grand taxi(s) to Dahkla ... Casablanca to Dahkla will be a looong trip! I did the same with a night or two in Tan Tan on the way there & back.

From Dahkla I suggest you stand by the northernmost post de police about 200m south of the big campsite; here there are two options - one - with the help of the police you ask foreign registered vehicles for room into Mauritania (you could ask in the campsite if you spend the night there - they have room) or - two - you pick up a van (there are quite a few in the mornings opposite the police post) for NBD, Mauritania price should be around 300Dh, whatever you do don't agree to a van in town in one of the hotels or at the campsite; do it there.

From NBD there are taxis leaving for NKT the price was around 5,500UM and then you can get another taxi from NKT down to Senegal.

I asked in Dakhla town regarding getting to NDB and they sorted it out for the following day for 400Dh. - I asked the hippy surfer guys in the shop on the seafront next to the hotels. This was last weekend
I'd also recommend using Supratours or CTM(?) buses as they're far more comfortable and reliable than most of the others.
If you decide to go from NDB to NKT via the train to Choum and then bush taxi to Atar and bus onwards, then you're in for a very interesting and 'African' journey. Pure chaos, no sleep, but great fun. Am currently in Atar recovering.

Sorry - I meant using Supratours or CTM as far as Dakhla. You can also take the train as far as Marrakech - which is very comfortable.

While going from Morocco to Cameroon you have to cover a long distance of 1500 kilometers but as the road condition is good there won't be any difficulty with any transportation , but to deal with bush taxi would be a great option and you won't have any problems.
