Police check points in Western Sahara.

Hi,
Can anyone remind me the information the police ask at all those stops you have to make in West Sahara? I want to fotocopy some ready made answers so I dont have to go into the tin shack and write everything out longhand everytime. I remember this info was posted here before, but I cant find it.
Many thanks,
Cam.
Currently in Rabat, wanting to catch up with Nick who didnt leave his passport in the Mali embassy for the weekend.

They take your passport and log you in...you won't be writing anything for them...
When they take your passport...get off the bike and enjoy the break...they're nice guys in the middle of nowhere who could use a bit of friendly conversation....

I was there in December 2006...so times may have changed.

Here's a spreadsheet containing all the Fiche Civil info. It's designed to print three-up on A4 paper, then when you trim the edges it fits into your passport.

You'll need to change the country from Royaume-Uni to La Nouvelle-Zélande, and your passport issuer won't be UKPA.

I'd agree with that. There's not that many of them that it didn't come as a welcome excuse to get off the bike for a few mins. The fiche is probably a good idea but you're going to be stopped there for a whlle anyway

Hi,

just came back from our 7-week trip Morocco and the Western Sahara. We headed down to Dakhla. You can make photocopies of your passport. This will save time.

By the way, a short video o f the second part of our trip you´ll find at Yesterdays, der Film, Trailer 2 - MyVideo

If you have any questions.....

Sneaking past western Sahara checkpoints

The western sahara checkpoints would always ask us "rally rally?" susequently we would say no and they would stop us for the customary police checks.... father name, mother's name, passport number, where are you going? etc etc

I know there aren't that many checkpoints but we actually got a bit fed up with repeating the same answers (especially when we had answered the same thing 200m down the road!) so this German guy gave us this idea of sticking competitor printouts on our bikes and whenever they said "rally" we'll yell out "wee wee" and they would frantically wave us through with a smile on their face! Just a thought as to another way to get through quicker:)

we went through in about Oct 2006

Ride safe, Ames

@amybaja

may be that worked in 2006, but definitely not today. Make copies of your passport: Important: Entering morocco you´ll get a number in your passport. This number you have to write also on the copies. (So they know exactely, where you´ve been)

Really!!!!!!!!! gee, I feel old and got to move with the times. Things change so quickly.

@amybaja

Me too, that´s right. When we were in the Western Sahara in 2000, the Police didn´t accept any photocopy, so didin´t prepare any for this years trip. And southwards always we were asked "Avez-vous une fiche?"
Shit happens! That´s the way.

Fiche

Dear All,

since I just passed Western Sahara I can tell you how it works currently: Some police control points ask for the fiche, which should contain:
- photocopy of passport
- the special number the police at the frontiers stamps in
- Profession
- Date of entering Moroc
- Place of entering Moroc
- Type of vehicle
- Brand of vehicle
- number plate of vehicle

Other policemen ask for the passport. The guys are really nice, I cannot complain at all.
