Pirelli Dakar?

Does anyone have any experience of the Pirelli Scorpion Dakar tyres?

Never seen them out there. This is the problem when they name a tyre 'Dakar' - people think it is a tyre to take you to Dakar but I think it's just cashing in on the Rally's fame like a lot of other stuff (eg; 'Paris'). As far as I recall Dakars are relatively low profile tyres (low sidewalls) - great for bombing around the road in your 4-wheeler without tyre squidge but not so useful in the desert where you lose ground clearance and get relatively little low psi 'spread' from the low walls.
Best I think to stick to XSs etc, for the ergs or normal ATs for all round driving

Hi,
I met someone in Kenya who had a set fitted to a Land Rover 110 - they came with the car when she bought it second hand.

She was pleased with the way that they had performed in northern Kenya where the roads are very rough and stoney and on regular dirt and bitumen roads. In her experience they were NOT GOOD in mud, and she had not used them in very sandy conditions (bar the odd sandy river crossing).

They seemed to be wearing well.

The Pirelli Catalogue claims that they are designed to perform on road, and on stoney tracks, and have good resistance to stone cuts.

ps she also had a great Land Rover story - her brakes packed up as she pulled into the car park of one of the elite safari lodges in Kenya. She drove down the front steps and into reception - pulling down the entrance shade structure as she went, and ended up with the bull bar up against the reception desk.

The Manager stormed out of his office, grabbed her, steered her straight to the bar and bought her a drink to steady her nerves!
