You can ship from Egypt to Jeddah and then straightforward drive to UAE with a 72hr Saudi transit visa. However,if the 'we'includes an unmarried female you are unlikely to get a visa for her but,she could fly ahead to Dubai or Abu Dhabi to meet you..Drive from Jeddah to Abu Dhabi is two days and one night along modern highways.

You could also go to Jordan (ferry Nuweiba - Aquaba) and then cross into Saudi and trundle along along the pipe line road which eventually leads to the UAE. You'll need a Saudi Transit Visa and you may have to drive in convoy across Saudi.

Thanks for the info,
we are doing assistance at the Pharoahs rallye then one week later at the Desert challenge in Dubai, thought it might be a nice trip to drive, the customs out of Egypt worries me as we are a bit tight on time.
Are there any problems with getting Visa's at the border for Saudi or do I have to trudge to London for them . The 'WE' is my wife so looks like she can enjoy the trip also.

Re buying transit visa for Saudi in Jordan, the chat when i went through was that it was not a problem. However I would make inquiries and if you can get it issued in the UK then why not do it whilst you have the luxury of time?

Ref making the Dubai rally ideally I would allow myself a little more than one weeks leeway on a trip like that. Certainly there are a lot of variables that could conspire against you, which would make the trip even more stressful.

other problems? shurely not ,, do mean things like the Nissan patrol with 18k miles on the clock burning No2 piston out while at Ksar Ghilane in Tunisa? luckly Mr Nissan smiled and gave us a new one for free ( apart from the 500 euro tow back to Tunis)

After looking at the maps etc and the info given here , I think that this trip is better left for another time, shame seemed like a good chance snap up another long drive .

and I have to prep a 660 KTM Rallye in between, so it looks like it's the plane for me.

thanks for the info
