On Moroccan and Mauritanian border

Hello,

I'm plannning a bike trip to Mauritania in winter 2004. I've a question about bike ownership documents. I bought my bike by instalments through the bank. On the bike's evidence document the bank appear as a owner, and me as a user. However, on the green card my data are the only (no annotation about bank's ownership).

Is it some kind of problem at the borders? In Europe it isn't any problem, but I affraid of an african bureaucratic borders..

What do you think?

Hi,

In order to enter Morocco you need a document from the owner stating that you can take the bike to Morocco. This document has to be certified by the Moroccan Embassy.

At least this is what the embassy in Lisbon, Portugal, asks for. I advise you to contact your local Moroccan Embassy for info in this matter.

Normally you can drive in Morocco with a vehicle (not your) they look only for the "carte grise" and if there is your name stamped on... you're ok!
BTW, search for a notarial letter (better if translated in French) that warrant for your position... but, show it only in case of misunderstanding by the douane http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/wink.gif

Enjoy!

Hmmm...

But my name and address are also on the vehicle document. Will the border officals know that I'm only the user? I can show my data on the bike papers and not to tell them that the formal owner is my bank.
On the bike papaers every information are in polish language. How can they know that on the front of the paper is owner and the user is on the back.

I'm asking about that because formal procedure of organising document from the owner is quite difficult.

Only other way is to pay off all the rest of the bike price.

Regards

I’m not sure if I can or should recommend this method but...

One way out of the situation would be to make your own official looking “export” Vehicle Docs on a PC (French lang for the Douane in Moroc and RIM) and make sure they tie in with your green card ect. If you get a good quality printout on the same sort of paper they should be the same as the original and wont be a problem at the boarders – just don’t let them find the original if you take it with you!!

In the past this also has worked - I have made a list in French of all the vehicle details inc insurance, passport Numbers, passport pics ect for the Douane and give a copy to the police, Douane, Immigration and any one else who wants one. This was accepted a couple of times with no problems if you arrive just before lunch or when they are really busy, you have too many bits of paper and don’t speak French or Arabic for the day. The sheets just got stapled into the ledger with a cursory glance to see if the names and numbers match
