Old GoldWing

Is it possible to ride onn tar roads from Tanger to Rabat to Fès and back to Tanger ?
I have an old GoldWing 1200 so off-road is no option.

I was thinking, one day from Tanger to Rabat, one day from Rabat to Fès and one day back to Tanger.
Just to get a quick impression of Marrocco and maybe come back later on my BMW F650GS.

How much fuel capacity do I need on those roads ? Are there enough gas stations ?

Ulrich 9 Mar 2008 21:55

Hello nameless,

Tanger - Rabat = highway
Rabat - Fes = mostly highway
Fes - Tanger = the same

Fuel problems: nowhere on this route.

Google Maps is Your best friend. Have a look.

Hi, I first went to Maroc in the early 80's, great roads but plenty of hustlers at the Tangiers port, I went for a 2nd time in 2006....and what a difference! so 'laid back' I will definately return, don't take my word for it, ask Tim Cullis!
No problems with fuel at all.

Thanks. That is good news.

Hi,

I´ve been to Morocco and south to Dakhla with my rigid frame combo in autumn last year. No problem. So, don´t care of your Gold Wing.

Some video impressions at: Yesterdays, der Film, Trailer 2 - MyVideo

At the end of the film you see some impressions of Tanger.

Jan,
Good luck with the trip. I enjoyed reading your account up to Nordkapp last year and am thinking of copying you. I liked your list of old bikes which is similar to mine, I rode Puch mopeds for the Post Office, then got a CB200, then later BMWs and Harleys. Bet you wished you'd hung on to some of them now.

Winterbiker,
Enjoyed the video but couldn't make out what the bike was. Why rigid-framed, is it a special? You were lucky to have so many people around to push it out of the sand.

Regards,

Indoors.

Yes, I would love to have some of these bike in my garage now, like the Harley SS250, the Electra Glide and the BMW R90/6 ........ and some others ;-)

Very nice video and a nice impressiom of Morocco. Except for the sand dunes, all roads looked like being no problem for my GoldWing.

Hi Jan,
We met at WingDing Europe in Denmark. We are going to be at the Belgian Treffen and then headed for Morocco, planning to arrive about mid-April. What's your schedule, are you going to Belgium? When will you be in Morocco? Will you be at the Morocco HUBB meeting? We'd love to meet up with you again.

Jan,
I ca'nt help you as I'm also looking for information on travel for Morrocco. I enjoyed reading your blog about the Nordkapp trip, hopefully you'll do a blog on this journey.

@indoors

The combo is homemade, and the hole story of building it you can read in English language at:
Yesterdays-Gespann

Scroll down a little bit.

Hi Mark,
I will, in fact, I already started on http://www.xs4all.nl/~jkrijt/trips/n2g2008/index.shtml
When I'm in Gibraltar it is only a short trip to Marocco.
It depends on the time I have and how much money is left if I can go to Marocco or if I'll drive North from Gibraltar.

Impressive Special

Sorry to hijack your thread Jan,

...but just wanted to thank Winterbiker for the links to his build - very impressive. From the video, I couldn't see that the motor was a Sportster or even the springer forks. Some people say Harley have been building 1920s bikes ever since the 1920s. I was just surprised that you made it rigid and didn't cheat with a softail arrangement.

Enjoy your riding,

Indoors.
