Nouakchott to Bamako

I original posted this in the route planning section but recived no info so i thought Ide try here.

Im looking to head from Nouakchott (Mauritania) to Bamako (Mali).I will be avoiding Senegal and heading across Mauritania to the Malian border.Anyone got any info on this route I will be travelling by whatever means possible eg;bush taxi(if available) or own car if need be and have about 1 week to do it in.Is this possible?

Cheers guys

If you search here or in the sub-Saharan forum you'll find plenty of refs for Mori to Mali direct.
As far as I know the cross routes are all bush tracks and hard work in the wet season, but I'm sure there are bush taxis from Kiffa to Nioro or Nema to Nara and beyond.

There's a new tarred road from Ayoun el Atrous in Mauritania to Nioro de Sahel in Mali. From there it's a hundred kilometers of extraordinary bad piste to the village of Diema where you meet up with the new Bamako - Kayes-road

Indeed, the road from Nioro to Diema is very bad piste. When we did it last January it would've been almost impossible to do it in a car.
