tombuctou sign in zagorra : It's near an hotel but it's not the original one which was near to the governor palace. and now ???

visit erg chebbi : overcrowded area, I'was told there is becoming a "touristic sand tank". Less visited erg Chegaga between Mhamid and Foumz Guid.

Tizi ( means path ) n'tichka and n' test are sealed road.

Todra and dades access road are also paved, between them there are two tracks, south seems have been destroyed by storm but doable with a bike. north more easier.

Camel, I never tried.

Kevin...

If you have time when you 'do' the gorges, keep going up towards Agoudal and head for the lakes past Imlchil... Circle the first smaller lake and take the track on the opposite bank, about 12-15 k along the track you';ll get to Lac Isli. Rob and I stayed the night there - N32 013 00 W05 032 9 - on our trip (this time last year ..!) . It's a spectacular place and at this time should be deserted except for the goatherd! It's 2250m elev so got a bit chilly overnight, but we were rewarded with the most spectacular night sky I've ever seen..! Thankfully I saw the moon rise and watched the shooting stars until I hit the sack at 11ish - shortly after which my stomach started to grumble which was the harbinger of my gastro-intestinal demise which struck me with the vengeance of the grim reaper at 1am. Hopefully my dribblings will have composted down by now.

On a slightly more sanitary note, there's a very helpful guy at the Cafe in Agoudal if you need gas for the trip back down the gorge...

I'm hoping to organise another trip next year - this will be on my itinerary of places to stay...

The original "Tombouctou 52 Jours" sign in Zagora was apparently demolished 'by mistake' but there just happens to be a hotel now standing in its place. This is the new sign which doesn't have the character of the old one especially as the local kids are picking out the nomad's eyes...
