NOT another libyan visa probelm??

had an interesting chat with kalifa of Visa and Translating services who informed me that the 45 days visa means that you must ARRIVE in Lybia within 45 days of the issue of the visa and you then have 90 days in the country..this is contrary to everything I have understood ..anyone any thoughts or observations on that??

If it is true it must be a new regulation and 90 days sounds unusually generous for this sort of country (even Australia only gives a Brit 3 months at a time)

Why not just ask the Libyans:

phoned the embassy (why didnt i think of that?) and they definately confirmed that the rules are that you must ARRIVE in libya within 45 days of the ISSUE of the visa and LEAVE within 90 days of arrival, i repeated the question in another form and got the same answer!! is it too good to be true , am i a cynic, or just bewildered...time will tell!!!!

Sounds like all the motorhomers will be spending their winter's in Lib then ;-)

I wonder if there is some catch, like the police stamp, carnet, insurance, etc only last a month. Certainly renewals after a month have always been possible in the right town.

Be careful about the 90 days.

The tourist-visa is valid (in the country) for 30 days only - but it can be extended 2 times for 30 days each. This means that you can stay in LY for a total of 30 days. This regulation is not new...

45 days after you have stamped the visa in your passport at the LY-embassy of your country is correct as well. Also here be careful - this period can be different in different countries.

Another thing: If you enter TUNISIA - which is still normal if you want to go to LY - your car will be stamped in your passport. Once you leave TU for LY, you must take care, that the TU-customs DELETS this stamp. Otherwise, if you return after 90 days, you might have problems with TU since the TU-stamp is valid for 3 months as well. If the stamp is not deleted, they might think, that you bring the same car the second time...

Another stamp which is important is the so called "triangle-stamp" (police registration). This stamp you must get in LY within latest 7 days after your entry.

Best regards, Kuno

Echo the Tunisia car stamp problem - I've had that before and didn't know to check that Tunisia had done their job on crossing into Libya. Tunisians got all made when the car was imported for 'the second time'. After quite of bit of grumbling they seemed to realised what had happened and the paper work was fixed.

..the thing is that the Tunisians expect you back within 4 weeks from LY. Therefore their own stamp would still be valid...

...so, they try to avoid the "work".

> another small thing: for the driving-licence in TU you need exactly 1 TU-dinar. Keep one with you when leaving TU!

Chris -

You mention people spending the winter in LY, which implies that there's now some ay of getting around the guide problem.

The cost of the guide (esp. for me travelling by bike) is forcing me to try and get from T to Egypt in about 4 days. I'd love to hang about, head down to Ghat etc, but don't want to end up in prison!

How can the daily guide be evaded?
Cheers.
