North Africa and Morocco

Hi,

Just asking for a few hints...I'm planning on a trip down to Morocco, through Algeria and Tunisia then back up through Italy.

I'm a female, ride a Transalp 600, which weighs quite abit - is this an advisable bike to use? (i'm planning on going off road quite abit) Or would an XR400 be abit more feasable?

Also, is Algeria as dodgy as it sounds? (2 women travelling on bikes alone)
I've read quite abit bout borders being closed etc?

Can anyone suggest a good route across this area?

Cheers!

as far as i know, there is no way to cross the border between morocco and algeria in either direction. i would be glad to hear things have changed, but i'm afraid they did'nt.

good luck

Desert Soul is right. Many people at the planning stage think of this route as a nice idea but Maroc-Alg has been closed for 10 years or so.

Whatever bike you take, make it one you can pick back up when loaded.

Ali304,
What time of year are you planning to go?

I'm going in late October and originally wanted to do the same Spain>Morocco>Algeria>Tunisia>Italy loop but border crossing issues have forced me to just make a big loop in Morocco. I will try to enter in Ceuta and exit in Nador though.

I'm heading down to Mauritania with 2 Land Rovers, mid/end October if you want to team up to go a little further than Morocco (if you have the time to spend 10 days doing your own thing there, you can link up for the drive back north as well).

Sam

what dates are you planning on going, who long for etc etc?

I did a 2 week Morocco trip two years ago and am hankering for some more adventure.

Any ideas yet?

Regards
Paul

Departing on/about 9 October, arriving Nouakchott for about 21st. Then in-country and back to Nouakchott on the 31st, then heading back north, Marrakech for approx 8th November.
