Libya, how about guides and paperwork??

Hello,

I want to travel to Libya next year in spring.
Does anyone can fill me in about :
- how to enter Libya : via Tunisia?
- what about the "necessary" guide?
- what about getting a visa, and how?
- are there other formalities to be done?

Thanks,

Karel

You are right about the guide security and also anti -theft .

Fro the price You can find starting from 50$ but of course the quality isnot the best.

Newly rules concerning circulation for private cars that are not allowed to circulate in definited areas . Akakus , Eweinat, W.Namus, Ubari Sand Sea and others.
This service is confined only to local agencies.

Letter of invitation still required for visa issuing.

Hi
did you pay 80$ for the guide in his car or without car?
for 20/30 Euro you can hire a pretty good guide without car, quality does not mean high prices!

Most of the agencies in Libya are refusing to follow these new restrictions, because they do not have enough cars, GOOD cars especially, to make tourists travel in their cars.
So once again: It is very important, with which agency you deal. If they tell you, its impossible to travel in your own car, just change the agency!
Fix every detail in a letter/mail before you leave and dont pay all in advance.

There were some tourists who got some money back at the end of the trip, there are also fair agencies in Libya

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
