I've asked someone in Tam to find out if they are issuing Niger visas there (as they used to) - that would be a good sign for overlanders.

A mate with connections in Agadez is not so convinced by all this: 'Agades is not so good. Crime rate up: still mines in some areas, Tenere route subject to bandit raids etc. Lot of ex rebels with guns, lots of ex-Libyan workers with no money.'

For the moment low profile camelling would be best.

Can anyone suggest a decently priced agency either based in UK or Europe that can provide a Niger Visa? I have contacted both the embassies in Belgium and Paris by fax requesting the application form plus other information but I am yet to hear anything over a week later. There is a decent website to apply in Washington but not sure if Irish Citizens can apply there?

Cheers

Finally got through to a nice guy who spoke English in the embassy in Paris. For anyone in EU applying outside of a country with a Niger Embassy and applying to Paris see below.

Ambassade du Niger en France PDF visa form is on the site.

Visa costs €61 (cash only Euro)
3 application forms
3 photos
Confirmed Return Flight
Yellow Fever cert (copy only is required)
Contact in Niger (Itineary)
72 hours turnaround time.

Will let you know how I get on.

This would have made for quite a sight in Agadez today (Gadaffi's security chief, and about 200-250 other Libyan trucks, arriving):

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
