nema to bamako: bush taxi?

I'm in NKT hoping to get to Bamako later this week. Got no car but I'm told it's no problem getting bush taxi or pickup or equivalent from Nema to Bamako, and that total cost from NKT should be about 15000 oug. Does anyone have any comments on this or experience of this route by public transport? I'm expecting it to take 3 to 4 days to get to Bamako.

Thanks!

Hello,

I've travelled siimliar way almost 2 years ago. I took the Nema bush taxi (Landcruiser with 11 passengers and a lot of stuff on the roof). On the way I was suggested to cross the border from Timbedha, as what they say was the most reliable crossing. From there, there is daily transport to Nara in Mali, and from Nara again daily to Bamako. I would not count on direct public transport to Bamako. Travel times and costs follow:
1. NKTT - Timbedgha: 6300 OUG (6500 to Nema) + 1.500 for a backpack, 24 hours, departures in the afternoon.
2. Timbedha - Nara: 3000 OUG (4000 in a cabin), 12 hours, departures in the afternoon (due to technical problem is took 36 h in my case). Do not count on departing the same day as arriving from NKTT (too late).
3. Nara - Bamako: 7000 CFA, 11 hours, morning departures.

Cheers,
Janusz

Hi Crofton,

i made NKT, Nema, Nara, Bamako 4 years ago by public transport: NKT- Nema: taxi brousse (1 day and 1 night) Nema-Nara: Toyoto Landcruiser - Pickup (1/2 day), Nara - Bamaka (1 day and 1 night)
Not expensive but dusty.
