Motor Insurance in Sahara/West Africa

Does anyone have any update on the cost of, say, one months insurance in
Mauritania
Senegal
Gambia??

Is it bought at the border?

(insurance specifically for motorhome)

Sorry can't remember the actual amounts but you get insurance for Mauri at the border after crossing no-mans land and insurance for Senegal and Gambia at the same time when you cross into Senegal **BUT** make sure you specifically ask for cover for Gambia - it's an extra.

mauritania at the border about 4000something for 10 days.

once you are in nouakchott you can buy there insurance with covers
you for senegal and gambia in advance.
ask around, not all offer cover for gambia.

don´t know actual prices, but not costly,
depends. on your "cv" ( i.e. horsepower ).

but far !! cheaper as to buy it at the border,
( and the only one office at the border selling overpriced insurance
because no competition there, will hate you )

at gambia itself, insurance for one month is also only a few euro.

So you mean, Todo, they will let me drive without insurance to Nouakchott from the Mauri border?
My dear friend Morovic told me how he bought carte brun (Ecowas insurance) in Kayes from some nice ladies, one year for peanuts - - - and I realized he got the 'locals' tarif, not the tourist one.

no, i mean you buy cover for mauritania at the border and once you are in nouakchott you buy insurance for at least senegal
( and gambia if necessary ) at any of the offices there.

that saves you from buying senegal insurance at rosso or diama.
there they rip you of because there is no competition/ only one seller,
with fantasy prices.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
