Morocco to Mauritania in Augest
Hello,
I'd like to plan a trip to Mauritania in end of Augest(for 2 weeks) and want to ask some questions: 1. Is it too hot/not suitable to go to Atar/Chinguetti/Ouadane area in Augest? If I go by myself, is it easy to join the camel tours at Atar to Sahara? 2. I plan to go from Dakhla to Nouadhibou, some says they don't issue border visa now, is it true? Did they need/recognize Yellow fever certificate from UK? 3. How much to take bush taxi/join a seat for 4wd from Dakhla to Nouadhibou? And is it dangeruous to go by myself on train from Nouadhibou to Choum? Many Thanks Leyland |

IMO, yes to enjoy the experience, but technically you will survive. If I go by myself, is it easy to join the camel tours at Atar to Sahara? Atar is the Sahara. I am sure you can find someone to take your money. But more chance in Chinguetti I think. A day trip in the dunes will be more than enough. 2. I plan to go from Dakhla to Nouadhibou, some says they don't issue border visa now, is it true? Temporarily yes, we are told. When it changes I am sure there will be news here. Did they need/recognize Yellow fever certificate from UK? Need - not as far as I recall; recognise - yes. 3. How much to take bush taxi/join a seat for 4wd from Dakhla to Nouadhibou? Dont know And is it dangeruous to go by myself on train from Nouadhibou to Choum? If you mean from other people, I have never heard a problem. Sometimes the train derails or breaks down. 45° in Spain is not the same as 45° in inland Mori. We all like an adventure but my advice: if you are serious about seeing inland Mauritania (a very interesting area) save it for the winter. But I always say that ;-) Ch |
