Morocco to Mauritania - not via the coast
 

Hi, just wondering if it's at all possible to go from Galtat Zemmour to Bir Mogrein?

Also, is the coast route ok for travelling back to Morocco now?

Ah, sorry the search box eluded me.

I'm in Agadir at the moment. Tried the ministries of interior and foreign affairs in Rabat, a guy said he'd see what he could do about getting permission, but he hasn't got back to me yet. Do you know anywhere I can try here in Agadir?

I should probably just give up and do the coast route yeah?

No worries, now you (and some others) know. Topics go round and round here and Bir Mog was discussed recently.

Rabat was the right place to ask but the wrong question (or not one that has earned a 'yes' for decades, apart for the Dakar Rally).
You might have a bit more luck trying the less obvious Smara to Bir Mog route (via Tifraiti?). It also requires hanging around/to-ing and fro-ing for a Rabat permit or permission, but a couple of years ago we had the impression it was worth a crack.

Thw whole problem is either route briefly passes through the Polisario 'Free Zone' (see p.459) before it gets to Mori.

Of course by the time you do this you could have driven down to NDB, up to Bir Mog, bought an ice cream and gone back down again. It all depends on how much time you want to devote to something that will probably fail - but then again that is how new routes open up...
