Hi Ursula,

to my best knowledge it has never been legal for foreigners to go from Kufra to Faya via Unianga. A good friend of ours, by mere chance, however managed to cross the border at Maaten es Sarra without hinderance. Later on, in December 1999 we tried to cross there too, trusting in our friend's experience but were strictly refused to do so. In Kufra we were formally told by the authorities that borders to Sudan and Chad are definitely closed to foreigners and so it is still right now. Therefore, don't count on a legal border crossing there.

Dear
Gerbert van der Aa

Thank You for trust.

The procedure You applied is correct. My suggestion is to follow Your Embassy work as outside push may be not suitable and unrequired both by the procedure and your embassy.

It takes times anyway .

Cheer

Dear Budrinna,

Thanks for your answer. I think outside pressure is very important in this case. You know Libya, don't you? So if you can do anything, it would be appreciated a lot.

Greetings,
Gerbert

Accident ( by mines) happened late august in an area usually travelled as safe. Seriously wounded a local guide and lesser two authorized travellers from EU.

Cheers Budrinna.

Hello Budrinna,

Please tell me what exactly happened? Where you got your information? I'm thinking of visiting the north of Chad at the end of this year.

Greetings,
Gerbert

Dear
Gerbert

This is a kind of info to handle with care, so You may understand in not answering the details in a publi forum.
Anyway the area and the border is now wideknow to be forbidden to transit except with a permission (tarkis) accorded for valid purposes (not for tourism).
GPS and cars equipped with satellite navigation systems not declared , or hidden , could be confiscated.
Trip must be notified with lot of time in advance.

Cheers with Shani

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
