Morocco insurance price

Hi,

This year my insurance company is refusing to cover my trip to Morocco. I know is it possible to get an insurance at the border. Anyone knows how much will a third party insurance for a 4x4 for 15 days will cost??

Thanks

I was on a trip in January 06 to follow the 'Dakar' on a R80gs and the 'insurance' cost at the border was €50 for just 5 days, this 'insurance' as I was told is not worth the paper it's written on. A Belgian guy I met up with photocopied his insurance inserted another riders details added 'pour' Maroc, Mauritania, Senegal, The Gambia etc recopied and then used a uk 10p piece dipped in ink and applied as to look like an official stamp, no problems at all when requested to produce at borders or back in Morocco when stopped for excessive speed. So either get a proper ins' from country of residence or just make your own.

Making your own forms sounds like a really good idea until you are involved in a serious accident.

A green card does cover Morocco or if the one provided by your insurance company does not then go elsewhere as mine certainly does. Otherwise Insurance is available at the border for any period up to a month and over that then three months. So the price is the same for one day or thirty one days. I can't remember the cost but it ain't much.

Obviously genuine insurance is best, but failling that the option is 'to make your own' or pay 'over the top' for a worthless piece of paper, either way in the event of an accident you are well and truly 'cattle trucked'

Twenty odd years ago I was involved in a **very** serious road accident in Morocco and had to sweat it out for three days whilst a hearing was organised in front of an examining magistrate. Fortunately it was judged that I was not to blame. Also, all my paperwork was in order.

I don't know where you get the idea that buying third-party insurance at the border in cases when you haven't organised it in the UK in advance is somehow worthless. If the Moroccan government makes laws covering the Responsabilité civile á l'occasion de la circulation du véhicule then who are we to question it?

Hi Bernardo,

I've also changed companys. I'm now with Liberty Seguros and have now some nice countries covered (e.g. Tunisia, Turquia, all Eastern Europe, etc).
