Morocco Accommodation

Hello all,

I've seen the various threads on accommodation throughout Morocco but I have I was wondering if anyone could give some more specific advice. We've got a route planned (in 4x4, not bike) to head south-east from Tanger to the M1 route and from there essentially follow the border all the way to the south (ending around Foum Zguid). Most of the nights will be camping around the vehicle or perhaps the occasional auberge.

When we head north however; we'll be stopping for a few nights in Marrakech and finally Tanger. Can anyone recommend nice places to stay that the vehicle can be parked securely (like in a courtyard or garage) to avoid us having to unload/move equipment on arrival? If that doesn't really exist, recommendations for somewhere nice but casual (i.e. that the carring of gear from 4x4 to room doesn't involve vast numbers of steps or distances).

Not sure if this is an odd query or not so apologies if I sound daft.

Thanks!
Scott

Most hotels have either secure parking or a parking guardian who looks after all the vehicles overnight, or know someone with a lockup.

If the hotel can't offer vehicle security, chose another hotel.

Should be OK

We came back in December and like you, worried about this at first (also have 4 x4). Before we left home we got the windows coated very dark and this was really good as nobody could see a thing in the back - made us feel better. Soon found as Chris says that hotels have "guardiens" who really do seem to stop up all night, mooching about in 16 overcoats in the cold, looking after cars! They will haunt you when you leave in the morning for a small fee ( probably not strictly necessary but seemed polite!) After a couple of nights we stopped worrying. Hotel Berlin in Rabat is OK - very central and as cheap as we could find for reasonable facilities, etc. I think it was about £20 double.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
