Moroccan border update

Hi.. Just got back from a short trip to Morocco. Found getting through border control a bit different from indicated in Sahara overland book. I expect the authorities have had a few changes since 1999 when the book came out.

Although probably old news to seasoned travellers, click on the link below to get to relevant item on my weblog for an updated procedure:

(or maybe copy/paste on this hubb?)

I have yet to finish the whole weblog in case your interested, am in the process of transferring from copious notes. Check back next week if you want to see the rest.

Cheers... Chris

No mention of GPS at all. We had one, they saw it, it was not an issue.

On the light search of our vehicle, the guy seemed more concerned with anything that looked like arms and explosives.

The new service sounds good. How does it work? Do I have to prebook my vehicle before going?

Thanks... Chris

Hi,

Next time, try entering Morocco through Tangiers. All the formalities are taken care in the ship!

I used the Ceuta way into Maroc after some advice that this route as the better alternative, as there is not a frantic border crossing as soon as you drive off the boat, but I suppose the system is more streamlined for this very reason. Maybe I use this route next time.
A downside is that I miss out on the 55c per litre fuel in Ceuta.. (and maybe the ferry is more expensive too?)

Thanks... Chris
