Moroc-Guinea Bissau: how long and road surface?

I, along with two colleagues from work, are planning a trip from the UK to Guinea Bissau via the Atlantic Route next January. The current plan is to take three weeks off work, take the bikes on the boat to northern Spain and ride down to Bissau.

I’ve done a fair bit of research but am unable to figure out two basic pieces of information:

1) what is the road surface like from Morocco to Bissau (I have the impression that the road is surfaced for the whole route except for the section between Nouadhibou and Nouamghar (260kms?) –if this is correct what is the surface like over this section and is there a marked route?)

and

2) how long would it take if we didn’t deviate from the main route from the time we enter Morocco to arrival in Bissau?

The planning process is on hold until I can figure out these two main questions –they are crucial to deciding whether this trip is feasible or not for us in the time available. Any help anyone can give me from their own experience would be much appreciated.

The road is tarred all the way through except for the 500km from nouadhibou to Nouakchott. they are in the process of tarring it and they mat be finished in late 2004.

If you go via Ziguinchor-Sao Domingos it is all tar, the other Bissau border crossings all have good dirt roads (ca 50-70km)in the dry season.

You could do Tanger to Bissau in 2 comfortable weeks, I took 5 days but was driving flat out.
