Mauritanian visa

Hi,
we are currently in Casa trvelling through Morocco to Senegal and then in to Mauri and further south. Can anyone confirm or deny that visa's can be obtained at the border as the embassy in Rabat says you can't but a couple of Moroccans I have spoken to say it is ok for Europeans. We are in Casa till Monday so hope to get some sort of confirmation one way or the other before moving on and don't really want to have to wait another 3 days in Rabat for the visa's.
Cheers

It is not usual for embassies to be poor sources of info however, they were no longer issuing them near Nioro on the Mali side a week or so ago, so Rabat could be right. Prices have risen too, I believe, but I dont think it takes 3 days.

Two weeks ago they were still issuing 15 day, single entry visas at the Maroc border. You can extend this in most large towns. Multiple entry was not available.

As Chris says, NO visas are available at the border with Mali (heading North), but I think this has been the status for a long while. Malian Imm. usually ask before stamping you out as they are tired with dealing with those turned back by the Mauris.

hello
we go in this next summer to mali (or at least give it a try, we don't know exactly how bad the rainseason is). we will buy the visa for mauritanie at the marocan border but whe travel then to mali and hopefully to senegal. And then the question: when you enter mauritanie from senegal, is it possible to buy your visa at the border??

thanks

Hi just crossed back from mali, had no problems as got a 15 day visa at maroc border when heading south then a month muti entry visa extension in nouakchott in 2 hours.also mali visa in nouakchott in 1 hour.got burkina faso 7 day visa at border.Take plenty of photocopies of passport as needed 15 just between nouakchott and kiffa.

brend 31 Jan 2009 20:01

hello
thanks for your reply. the visa extension in mauritanie how much did that cost extra?
and is it better to buy mali visa in nouakchott then at the border? when you buy it in nouakchott is it necessary to get an extension within 5 days in bamako?

thanks

brend

cannot be sure on the mauretania extension but i think it was 20 euro for 1 month multi entry. The mali visa better at nouakchott as you can choice multi entry or we got double entry for 1 month cost 8000 ogs(20 euros)the visas was really quick they said 3 hours but if you wait they very quick its only a 200 ogs taxi(nightmare) ride from auberge menata(n 18 05 590 w 15 58 639)The dst office for mauretania extension is 15 minute walk away.

thanks again.
it was something like 20 euro for mauretanie visa extension, so first something like 20 euro at the border and then an surplus of 20 in nouakchott for changing it in an multiply entry visum? so in total something like 40?

and when you buy mali visa in mauritanie you don't need extension in bamako?

brend 4 Feb 2009 12:39

hello
how much is the multiply entry visum for mauritanie in total? 20 at the border and an surplus of 20 for changing it into a multiply entry visum?

sorry that i keep asking but if i don't know it exactly enough my mother and sisters begin to scream that i didn't do my work good enough.

Mali - Mauretania

We got turned back when trying to enter Mauretania from Mali at Nioro because they didn't issue any visa at the border.
We tried Kayes - Kiffa instead and there were no problems.

roamingyak 14 Mar 2009 20:18

Two years(!) ago I got stamped out of Kayes, drove through Kankossa and Kiffa where they wouldn't give me a visa (but Kiffa did customs for my vehicle). They both told me to go to Nouakchott. No problem getting a visa in Nouakchott (with no questions or hassles) or actually driving north through the entire country and into WS without a visa it seems. Though if something goes wrong it won't be fun.

Make sure you buy car/bike insurance as that is what they check on the roads in-between (available in Kiffa).

So if really stuck check out of Kayes and try it like that. But better to get before hand as always, saves the stress I had.
