Yes, British are exempt, but I have a friend that is setting up the Mediterranean Loop: he had to leave home in southern Italy bound to Tunisia then Lybia, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Turkey and the Balcans then back to southern Italy.
He was supposed to leave in two weeks and had already applied for the Lybian visa, but this unexpected event "destroys" his trip.

Well done, Mr. Gheddafi...

Shame that. Its horrible how an entire country can be shut off, especially Libya. Although i have never been to North Africa but I have seen documentaries that show how beautiful and unique the country is. Cant your mate go down Greece and cross to Egypt?

Hey, Tommy.
Yes, it's what he'll do in case the situation won't evolve positively, he just wrote it on the Italian message board we are members of.

But you are right: it's a shame.

With this and recent hassles with the permits in Egypt, about the only place left to go in peace to the Sahara are the Canary Islands...

Perhaps it can be resolved rather quickly (weeks? months?)

EU-Libya meeting planned to discuss visa row (Magharebia.com)
A meeting between Swiss and Libyan diplomats is in the works to smooth over a recent quarrel over travel restrictions.
"In a statement to Magharebia, former Tunisian ambassador and Maghreb relations expert Ahmed Wanis said: "It seems that Libya, in taking that latest resolution, gave the principle of sovereignty precedence over interests.""

Q is taking personal grievances to a new level.

Guess we won't be visiting Libya anytime soon.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
