Mauritania visa info

For those planning to enter and leave Mauritania overland with public transport and don't have Rabat on their route, here are the requirements for a single-entry 30 days visa by the embassy of Mauritania in Brussels (March 2012):

- Flight reservations for onward and return journey
- Declaration of the use of public transport
- Invitation or accommodation reservation (one is ok, doesn't have to be for the total length of stay)
- 62,5 €

One week delay.

Hello Rafke,
Who makes the declaration of use of public transport and the invitation or reservation of accomodation. Do you know a way to get it.

Hello Jos,

You write the declaration of the use of public transport yourself. The accommodation reservation is done by a camping/auberge/hotel. If you plan to visit Atar, contact Bab Sahara (they do speak dutch).

Mauritania visa in Rome

In case anyone is interested, I just got a mauritania visa in Rome.
- 62.5 eur for single entry
- 2 days
- 2 passport photos
- no need for declarations of use of public transport/itinerary/plane tickets/letters of invitation or anything like that. Just fill in the form they give you (the standard visa form) in duplicate copy
- I was told you HAVE to specify the actual dates of validity of the visa (max 30 days, within the next 3 months)
- no need to submit or pick-up the visa in person (I sent my mother)
- they repeatedly asked if I was Italian (I am) so I don't know how it would have worked with a different passport
- I don't know if they can deal with postal applications (having seen the place, I highly doubt it) but if you're desperate I think it'd be worth a shot calling an Italian travel agency in Rome and ask them to submit/pickup/mail back the passport for a fee (given the economic crisis in Italy my guess is they'd probably be happy of any business)
- the name of the person I dealt with is Rashid

In Switzerland they refuse my visa because i dont provide a booked flight.

I had to send in the Carnet du passage or a booked flight, so it worked on the 2nd try. That was a bit crazy, because Mauretania dont accept the carnet, you have to buy a temporary importpaper.

Just got my visa application denied in Abuja (Nigeria) for the reason that my letter of invitation (reservation) was not stamped by some kind of tourism authority. That was a new requirement which they only told at my 2nd visit to the embassy, very annoying...

Does anyone know if I can get my visa (I am Dutch) in Dakar and if so, what the requirements are?
