Mauritania
Two questions:
Is the highway completed Nouadhibou-NKT? Another post has said that carnets are required for Mali and Mauritania - which I don't think is correct. What is says on the visa application, and what is actually needed on the ground are frequently different. Thoughts? Sam. |

In august this year the road from NDB to NKC was almost ready. Work on the last 15 km was in progress. I suppose the road should be ready by now. The part between the two borderposts - about 5 km - seems to stay a piste for the coming years.
Greetings, Gerbert |

In august no carnet was needed for Mauritania. For Mali I do not know, but I suppose you don't need one.

Two weeks a go there were three unpaved sections bet NDB and NCKT, some with soft sand and some indestructible 190 MB stock on it. The worse near NDB. There were a few kmts of corrugations before NCKTT.
No need of carnet in RIM, but essential in Rosso. good trip ! |

<Another post has said that carnets are <required for Mali and Mauritania - which I <don't think is correct. The highway is completed short of 100 metres of passable sand. No carnet was needed for Mauri ,nor for Senegal just a little hassle at diama but nothin unusual Carnet is defionitely nor needed for Mali as the embassy in Yoff here has confirmed; good news is that mauri visa at the border is now 30 euros .and the douanne hut doesnt charge any more for inscribing vehicles morocco border has moved to a new brand nez facilities south of guergarrat much more convenient. In the nobodys land beetween the borders they have setup scrapyards so they can buy cars tax-free and dismantle them and then ship the parts hassle free to nouaddibou .clever ,isnt ? have fun Javier |
