Mauri Visa at Malian border in Nioro, NOMORE?

Apparently, some Germans and French were turned back at the Malian/Mauritanian border past Nioro (south to north). All returned to Bamako (done 600km in vain) to get a proper Visa (24hrs). The Visa is not being issued anymore at the border. Maybe someone can confirm...

Manfred, in Bamako

I can't confirm that, but things are a little more relaxed when coming north, or at least they were this time last year I did the Kayes to Kiffa piste, via the border at Kankossa.

Kankossa, Kiffa and Nouakchott wouldn't give me a visa so I ended up getting stamped in and out of the country at the Western Sahara border. They stamped me out on the basis of me turning up at 8am on a cold windy morning and they glanced at my previous Mori visa, stamped me out and wished me a safe journey. All quite surreal and quite funny. They seem more concerned with your car insurance at police checkpoints - and just hand a photocopy of your passport over if ever asked.

That's it Manfred, fostering the community spirit that helps us all. You may find a busy post gets you more information, or you may find nobody likes to help a grumpy poster. Who knows. Lets hope you get through safely anyway....

You can pretty much always get a visa in Nouakchott if you go to the right agency or know the right people - in case you really get stuck.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
