Mauretania to mali Bamako Best route

Hi
We are leaving southern Spain on the 29th and we would like to hear from anyone who has up to date information on the best route.tracks to take between Nouakchott and Bamako.
We are driving a 1990 landcruiser but we only have three weeks to hit Timbucto and get back to Bamako.
Cheers
Alan

Hi folks

If you search for "Simon Millward" there is a site where some motorcyclists did a Memorial Trip in his memory. They report that there is now a European standard road which cuts out the beach/desert journey. Check it out.

Hi
Thank you for the reply, you mean the Atlantic route.
I have crossed by this route for the last 3 years but it is Nouakchott to Bamako Mali that i need the info.
Cheers
Alan

I forgot!
the site for the Mauritanian road info is "Motorcycle Outreach". There is a link to it from the "Scottoiler" site.

Sorry folks! I was too hasty in replying - I'm clock watching in an Internet cafe

Hi Alan, the road from Nouakchott to Bamako is easy going now, there is a new road from Ayoun el Atros to Nioro, after that its ca 120km of bad piste, just drive slowly and then easy going to bamako. No sand either and the oil sump should be OK this time ;-)
